3 Steps to Google Adwords
Optimization
When I was a kid I went out fishing with a stick and some line and a
hook a makeshift fishing rod that I made myself. My family didn't have
a lot of money and I used to get teased a lot by the other kids who had
real fishing rods.
I used to have a real passion for fishing back then and the other kids
would shut their mouths when I caught 2 to 3 times as many fish as they
did, with my simplistic makeshift fishing rod. You are probably
wondering, what the hell does this have to do with Google Adwords
optimization? In all honesty not a whole lot but I love telling the
story.
One thing that you can take from this story when optimizing your
account is simplicity works the best. I have seen aspiring Adwords
marketers with beautiful websites fail. I have seen the fugliest
websites make money. Look at some of those long winded sales pages.
Most of them are pretty ugly and extremely lengthy. They are effective
and some of the most successful ways of marketing on the net.
Don't get me wrong I am not saying that a nice site wont work, but it
is the content, the layout and the ability to strike a chord with the
website visitors that is a very important piece of the puzzle.
What are the three steps to optimizing a Google Adwords campaign.
1. Laser targeted keywords
2. Killer Ad Copy
3. Extremely relevant landing page
Laser
Targeted Keywords
When a web searcher types in a search phrase they are looking for
relevant information. This is what the Google business model is all
about and they are constantly improving their algorithms for the
natural search to make sure that only relevant topics or products show
up to the searcher.
If you were promoting an ebook about seo. A laser targeted keyword
would be "seo ebook" "ebook seo" or "search engine optimization ebook".
A highly targeted and also acceptable keyword term would be "seo info"
or "seo resources". Search terms that a newbie Google Adwords marketer
might think is highly targeted but is not is "generating traffic" or
"free traffic". These terms might be related somewhat but they are not
laser targeted or highly targeted and might not produce very successful
results. To optimize your page for Google Adwords you need to keep your
keywords as targeted as possible.
Killer
Ad Copy
Remember the first impression the searcher has of your business after
they type the search term is your ad. This is crucial in catching their
attention and persuading them to click your ad and not one of your
competitors ads. You should try to have your keyword in your ad copy
and put the benefits of your product or service in your ad.

*side note* Google is a trademarked word and they don't like you using
it in your Adwords ads, one way around this is to misspell it. eg.
Goggle, Giggle, gogle etc. Most searchers will catch on and you may
have seen ads doing this. You may have seen my ads using this technique.
Extremely
Relevant Landing Page
This is what will make or break your business. It is what the visitor
will judge you on and if done properly will close a lot of sales and
convert like mad. If done poorly it will lose the prospects you worked
so hard to pull in. Keep the page simple. A busy page will have them
click out asap. Write strong sales copy. You need to win them over with
your words.
To stay extremely relevant try to use the exact keywords that they used
to find you on your landing page. This might not always be possible but
you should have words very similar at least. This is also extremely
important in Google Adwords optimization.
Offer them a solution to their problem and this will win them over.
With the SEO ebook example
Their problem is no search engine listings or poor search engine
rankings, make it clear that your product will solve that problem and
pass all tests with flying colors. Proof can really help establish
credibility. Showing an example of some of your top rankings would
really help with the example above. Testimonials are another way to
establish credibility. If you have real people stating how great your
product is and how it did a wonderful job for them, this will go a long
way.
These are the 3 steps for Google Adwords optimization. I hope you find
this article useful and remember always test your pages, ads and
keywords for performance. Keep what works and always try to improve it
and either drop what doesn't work or try to optimize what isn't working
and test more. You should always be testing and tweaking.
